A Brilliant Idea

Throughout the month of January, the SA Writer's Centre ran 'Summer Inspiration' - daily writing prompts to inspire aspiring writers to, well, write!

I signed up, and although not every prompt inspired me, some really captured my imagination. So rather than leave them all sitting in a folder on my computer, I thought I'd share some of the more interesting ones...

Writing Prompt 2: Tell your friends an outlandish lie such as ducks are not technically birds. Insist that you know this from a reputable source and write down the argument.
'I grew them myself. They're a rindless variety.
Go ahead, try a piece!
Picked them straight off the tree this morning.
Can't get fresher than that!
Be warned though, you'll never find these in the shops, not yet anyway.
I grow them in the shade house up behind the shed.
I'd show you but then I'd have to kill you.
Just kidding! I'd love to show you, but my patent attorney advises against it until the paperwork's finalised.
It's taken me about ten years to perfect them.
You see, the wife kept getting juice in her eyes when she peeled them for me.
She got a squint. I got a brilliant idea!'
